The 7 Best Natural Deodorants For the Freshest Summer

We don’t recommend tossing out your tried-and-true deodorant to sample numerous new options at the mercy of the sweltering Florida heat (and humidity!) But recently, that’s exactly what we did. Hey, we do these things so you don’t have to!

Trial and error with deodorants can be a very scary thing. One wrong turn and you’re a sweaty, stinking mess. (And yes, that happened.) But, what better place than Florida to really put deodorants to the test? Specifically, natural deodorant.

What is natural deodorant, you ask? Good question! Natural deodorants do not contain aluminum which has been linked to breast cancer and hormonal disruptions. And that’s a good thing! Unfortunately, some natural deodorants contain baking soda, which, when not properly formulated, can cause itching and inflammation. Obviously, that’s a bad thing. So, we’ve compiled a list of effective natural alternatives that get the job done without trading one irritant for another.

Please keep in mind that you may experience a purging process! This is your body adapting to the swapping of your standard pore-plugging, aluminum-containing deodorant for something more healthy. For a couple of weeks you may sweat a bit, but don’t sweat it! It’s worth it.

Should you choose to accept this challenge (YOU SHOULD), here are our best picks!

Our Favorites

1. Nfuse $10.00
This deodorant is a true gem. It is both innovative and effective and is magnesium-based. Most of us don’t get enough magnesium in our diet, and this deodorant actually delivers 290mg of magnesium with 2-3 swipes! The best part? It keeps you smelling fresh. Our favorite scent? Rosemary Mint. Also available unscented.

2. Routine. $30.00
This brand boasts a range of options in terms of scent and formulation. From the bold Baking Soda + Charcoal to help detoxify, to the milder Baking-Soda-Free for sensitive skin, this is your go-to brand when seeking an effective product with tons of variety. Our favorite? Superstar. The activated charcoal is like a facial for your arm-pits!

3. Agent Nateur $21.00
A press favorite, we simply had to try Agent Nateur’s natural deodorant to see what all the hype was about. Here’s what we found: a deodorant that glides effortlessly and works to keep you scent-free throughout the day + a sleek bottle. There’s even an attractive black version that’s sure to add class to any bathroom aesthetic.

4. Meow Meow Tweet $20.00
For those with particularly sensitive skin, Meow Meow Tweet has a treat for you! Their zesty grapefruit deodorant is refreshing, non-irritating and effective. Bonus: the under arm Primer prevents irritation and aids in the transition to natural deodorant.

5. Saje $10.95
For fans of essential oils. Saje’s sprays and sticks will refresh your armpits while making you feel simply divine. Their various options incorporate ingredients like sandalwood, vetiver, and fennel to help calm and soothe you while keeping you fresh and dry. Our favorite: Au Natural crystal fresh deodorant stick.

6. Schimdt’s Charcoal & Magnesium Deodorant $9.99
Award-winning natural deodorant? Sign us up! Schmidt’s neutralizes odor and isn’t sticky, which is more than we can say for a lot of other deodorants! Their formulation is mineral-rich, vegan and cruelty-free and comes with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

7. Lavanila $14.00
Our favorite thing about Lavanila is the subtle, fresh scent. For those hesitant to get wild with exotic essential oils or fruity fragrance, this is a safe option. Lavanila contains no aluminum, no harsh chemicals and has a lovely coconut smell.
